Ariel II Project

Ariel II

46 Foot Commuter
Ariel II is a 46-foot Commuter boat designed by Sidney Herreshoff. She was built in 1931 by the renowned Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. Her restoration began in 1999. The owner wanted to preserve her authentic look and feel yet have all the latest systems, like air conditioning, refrigeration and water making.  Therefore, all these modern conveniences had to be hidden.

“It was particularly challenging because she had a very narrow beam so there wasn’t a lot of room. Scott’s group had to figure out how to make everything fit and still have easy access for repairs and maintenance.  We were glad to have them on our team for this restoration. It was a very effective collaboration.” said Steve Ballentine, owner of Ballentine’s Boat Shop.

The project took over four years to complete. The result was so exceptional that Ariel II was featured in the Wooden Boat Calendar in 2006.

NorEast oversaw the total refit including:

  • New water maker
  • New domestic water system
  • All new plumbing
  • All new tanks
  • New refrigeration and freezer
  • New chilled water air conditioning
  • New navigation package
  • New design and installation of electrical systems — AC/DC
  • Full set of electrical system CAD drawings
  • Hydraulics
